I wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving tomorrow!

Please wish me luck baking apple pies (plural) this evening ;)

Thankfully, my sister and brother are excellent apple peelers and slicers!

Last year was the first time I ever made a pie, and it actually turned out pretty well!

Fingers crossed for this year!

I used tiny cookie cutters to put openings in the top of the pie. Thought it added a little something extra! Do you all have any special pie recipes? Share them in the comments for Christmas pies please!

One last thing, go HUG your grandparents!!! Thanksgiving is the perfect time! I've said this before, but grandparents are so much wiser than we are, talk to them, let them teach you something. Maybe a pie recipe?!

Slide Scanning

As a Christmas gift to my family, but mostly my grandmother, I am scanning all her old slides. I bought a little slide scanner on ThinkGeek.com call an ImageLab and it works really well. Only problem is you scan one slide at a time, so far I've scan 549 slides, that's a 1/3 of the slides! My grandfather apparently loved to take photos! He passed away when I was very little, but I inherited his love of photos!

Here is just a few of the scan slides! What do you think? It scans them in at 8x6 300dpi, so it's a good print quality too. I'm going to make a dvd with all the slides, and print some of the really awesome ones. The photo below was taken in Japan in the early 60's.

The tiny blonde haired boy is my dad!

My grandfather retired from the Airforce and had traveled all over the world. Unfortunately, I don't know where all the photos were taken. I can figure out which ones are Japan, Vietman, and Thailand, but the rest I have no idea! My grandma may know, but I'm trying to surprise her with this so it's tricky!

I haven't been very crafty lately, but I have been productive ;)

Have any of you ever done this? I keep scanning the slides in backwards, then I have to flip them all in photoshop! Anyone have any tricks or useful slide info? lol I'm very new to this!

Weekend Wonderfulness

I flew to Nashville over the weekend to get my sister, Lauren, so we could drive all the way home together for Thanksgiving. We had lots of fun, saw lots of interesting things, drink lots of Starbucks, ate alot of food, and saw our friend Andrea in GA!

Nashville is so pretty! The fall leaves had mostly fallen, but there were still a few orange and yellow leaves left.

We went to the FAKE Parthenon - which was odd, but interesting and huge! This one was not built in 432 BC, but much more recently right in the middle of Nashville. So strange! I wonder if I had sooo much money and I didn't know what to do with it, what ancient landmark I'd rebuild?! What would you rebuild?

While we were in Chattanooga, we visited Ruby Falls. It was AMAZING!!! You go way way underground and then you finally come to an underground waterfall. 

It's one of the prettiest things I've seen!

Stalagmites and stalactites everywhere!! Do you know which is which? I remember from geo class -StalacTites - T - the shape of the ones that hang from the cave ceiling. Now you know!

We did a bunch more stuff, but it may bore you all ;)

Question:

Do any of you wonderful crafty guys and girls know if there are any craft festivals in Tennessee or on the way from Tennessee to Florida this weekend? Confusing? Sorry - I'm visiting my sister, Lauren, up in Nashville this weekend, and was curious if there's any craft festivals on the way home! And if you know of any good tattooers up there in Nashville? Let me know! 

I know there is a Hobby Lobby in Nashville - yay! What else? Any ideas?

Pretty Paper Hearts

Look at my new heart hole punch by Martha, even better it was 30% off! 

I saw this heart hole punch over on Cute 'n Boot and it reminded me of my parents.

My mom saves EVERYTHING - I inherited this trait. This trait can be considered pack-rat-ish, but it has it's good points. For example, this old Maas Brothers box has been in my mom's right hand top drawer as long as I can remember with all the card and notes my dad has given her. 

This box is full of tiny pink and white paper hearts my dad hole punched out for her 28 years ago. 28 years!! They both worked at the local newspaper here in Tampa, and during a down time at work my dad made these for my mom, and she's kept them all these years. 

Pretty sweet huh?

fingers crossed

I haven't felt very crafty lately. Hopefully I get a burst of energy this weekend, and fingers crossed I'm not getting sick- er. 

Here is my 2nd Fall Colored Giant Granny Square so far. 

I love love love crocheting! I'm using the "I love this yarn" yarn brand and I do, I love it! First - it comes in extra large rolls, second - it's super soft! Only problem, I got it at Hobby Lobby and that's not one close by, so who else sells this yarn? Anyone know?

Once I really get a handle on this square business I'm going to try new patterns! 

Here is the last project I worked on for the Cupcake Queen herself, Jessy!

I made her a pillow from my favorite designer's fabrics, Anna Maria Horner. I hand sewed the hexagons and machine quilted the pillow!

Then in the middle hexagon I did some free hand embroidering!

Come & Gone

About a month ago my sister, Lauren reminded me that my Blogoversary was coming up. Well it came and went, and I forgot! Oops! But now I can have a week long blogoversary!!! 

When I first decided to create a blog I was super intimidated! But I did it anyways, and I'm so glad I did!! I've got to now some really awesome and crafty gals! These craft blogs are such a wonderful way to share and learn new crafts! I had zero clue how to crochet last year at this time, and today I can't put the yarn down! I just want to thank everyone who follows my blog and everyone that leaves sweet comments! They really mean a ton! I remember when I got my first comment and I freaked out - I was so excited!

First time.

New Giant Granny Square! I'm still working on the orange and white one, but I couldn't help start this one! I went up to GA the other weekend to see my very dear friend Andrea for her birthday and Halloween. While I was there we went to Hobby Lobby! It was my first time! At first I was like, yikes, this is all crap and nic nacs, but once you go through all that towards the walls you get to the craft supplies! At Hobby Lobby they constantly have sales?! The girl who rang me up gave me 50% off everything almost! Is that normal, I'm not arguing just curious.  The yarn in my arms was 2 dollars a roll - that's a deal! Plus I bought a few hoops, because in Tampa all the Michael's are sold out of hoops! Thank you Andrea for putting up with my oohhh's and ahhh's at Hobby Lobby! You're the best ;)
