Vintage Disney Patterns

I wanted to share these very cool vintage Disney patterns. My aunt had these at her house and let me borrow them to copy. The copyright says 1945, I'm not sure if this mean it was published then or made then. All I know is they are very old! Here I found one on etsy!
Vintage Toy Pattern
The Bambi looks like it would be the least difficult - but still VERY difficult!
Vintage Toy Pattern
The Mickey is pretty cool too!
Vintage Toy Pattern
Let me know if you know anything about these - I'd love to know more!
I can't copy them (the sheet is too large), but I can trace! Thank goodness for the huge light table at work!

Free Play Weekend

I had huge crafting plans for this weekend! I figured I'd get a back on a quilt, make some pea shoots, cut out fabric, make pillows, etc. But I didn't do any of that - whompwhomp! But no biggie - I did crochet in the car on the way to a video game auction!
Video game people are nuts (in a good way)! The games are very cool! They had the claw toy games too! I wanted a fortune teller like in Big, but they didn't have any. We did purchase a lot of pinball machines and they are the most awesome things ever! Popeye is my favorite - watch!
Mickey and I crocheted Sunday morning then helped my mom and aunt with invites for my Nanny's surprise 80th birthday party!! I know what you're thinking - don't scare/surprise an 80 year old, but my Nanny is healthier than me and you. She goes to the gym twice a week, the doctor said she's like a 35 year old - so it's okay to surprise her! Don't worry she not a computer user, though I thought about getting her an iPad, but everyone said that was a bad idea. She LOVES my iPhone though, she always goes though all the photos (all 3,444 of them). My iPhone is the only place she goes on the interweb, so I figured an iPad would be perfect! Set up an email Nannybird@gmail - what do you think? Get her a pinball machine? bahahahaha
oh mick
I received this awesome lil monster in the mail handmade by Tee* from Compendium of Cute! I was SUPER lucky and won this lil monster in Tee's giveaway! I got to pick my colors - I of course picked orange! Isn't he so cute!? I brought him to work to sit on my desk! He is so wonderful! Thank you!!
Me and my lil monster!!
So I may not have had a super crafty weekend, but it was a good one! How was you weekend!? Was it craft filled!?

You're a cute cookie!

Yesterday was the most awesome day ever! Why? - you ask!
Because I won cookies from the Fancy Lady, Amanda! And she made me a Mickey cookie!

Do you understand how stoked I was!!??

My ideal summer cookie shape was a yellow polka dot bikini!! I'm not going to lie those bikinis are amazing, but the Mickey cookie stole my heart - obviously ;) So cute and so thoughtful!
Thank you Amanda!!!

Do you need awesome cookies? Go check out her etsy shop here! The cookies will arrive quick and they are package beautifully!! If someone you know has a birthday coming up buy them cookie from The Fancy Lady not flowers - you can't eat flowers!

Tomorrowland by iPhone 4

Have you ever been to Epcot? It's my first Disney theme park - fun and educational! Tomorrowland is the 1950's take on the future - and I LOVE it! Tomorrowland is here, thanks to Apple!
I've had my iPhone 4 for a bit now, but my sister just got one. I never really use the face time function til now! Lauren and I face timed yesterday, meaning while we were on the phone together we could see each other! It was awesome!!! I got to see her new apartment and her pretty face!! You can only use it with wifi, but there's a crack to use it anytime (we don't have that...yet!). This is how you view face time, the main screen is what Lauren shows me and then there's a tiny box to show what she sees (my face) - pretty cool!
Face time!!!!
My sister texted me, "I feel very futuristic!" and it's true! It's crazy! Every solider overseas should be given an iPhone 4 so they can see their families (or just brought back home). If you have a friend or family member who lives far away get this phone :) it's soooo neat! Now I'll I want is teleportation please! Figure that out Apple!

Pretty Things

Yesterday was quilting day at my Aunt Jackie's house! It's safe to say quilting day is my most FAVORITE day! Yes we quilt, but we also eat lots of yummy food, we have tea and dessert, chat, joke, pick on my uncle, etc. It's tons of fun! I'll have photos later!
Linda is one of the very talented quilting ladies, and she opened an etsy shop called The Quilting Violinist! Go look at her awesome Selvage Bath Mat! She's a clever one!
Be back later gators with weekend project photos!

Doily Love

I love doilies, but they are a bit impractical! Their purpose is to be pretty and mostly help keep scratches off wood surfaces -right!? But I want them to be seen! So here is my project for the weekend - doily pillow! I just used that pillow in the photo to lay them out, I have an ugly old brown pillow I'll use for the doily pillow! Any bright ideas on how to attach the doilies the best way? What are your weekend projects?

this week so far..

...has been wonderful, but messy! Here's the dining room table - yikes!
It's kinda a pretty mess and we just eat around the craft stuff!
My sister has been home this week and it's been wonderful seeing her! Today we had lunch together and talked nonstop about True Blood - people around us probably thought we were nuts -"did you see when Russell pulled the guy's spine out" bahahaha! I don't want her to go back to Nashville or if she has to go I wanna go back with her!! Yesterday she spent the day with our little cousins, Lolo and Rachael, and they did crafts from The Double-Daring Book for Girls! She said it was pretty awesome! I just happen to have both books, so I'll go through them and find some good stuff to share with you all!
Daring Girls
Lauren, me, Mickey, and Pumpkin (lauren's pup) went to get icecream yesterday for dinner! Here's Mickey ordering ;)
I'll take a double milkbone in a cone please!
Mickey LOVES going to get icecream because they give him stale bones - he'll eat anything!
I hope you all are having a great week too! Do you have craft messes on your dining room tables? Maybe the kitchen bar area or living room table is now the new craft area? :)

I would like to have you little bracelet!
And this little fancy orange friendship bracelet, I like you too!
More stackable bracelets here, you'll like them all. Which is your favorite!?

Sometimes I don't feel 27

27! That's nuts!
I mean I go to work, pay bills, do laundry, buy groceries, clean, do grownup stuff, but is being a grownup ever going to kick in? Does it have to? I have had "what are these crazy kids up to" thoughts or the "I must change the radio station" feelings and I can't even watch MTV anymore - but I still wear sneakers everyday and collect toys like it's my job - I wish it was. Next year is my ten year high school reunion - bahahahaha. That's crazy! Anyone else ever have these feelings?

More progress!

Carly's blanket so far
I have a few projects going on right now! Here is the progress of Carly's blanket! Here it was last week! I still just love the colors she picked! It's tough for me to stick with a repetitive pattern, so I'm not :) That's how I did my sister's blanket - there was no rhyme or reason to her pattern, but it turned out pretty awesome!
I'm also working on this and this! Do you work on a zillion projects all at once? I can't help it, it's my tragic flaw - if I were a geek hero ;)

My breakfast everyday!
Everyday I eat waffles for breakfast. Sometimes I have two, most of the time I eat three. I drink a big glass of water and then have a diet coke - bad news, I know. If we run out of waffles (which rarely happens) I have cereal with Silk Milk -Very Vanilla- of course. Sometimes I get Starbucks on the way into work - then I'm so zippy on caffeine I drive my coworkers nutty!
Do you eat the same thing everyday? Do you eat breakfast at all?
I'm curious! :)

Daddy-o's Birthday!

This weekend went by too fast!
It was a fun one! My dad's birthday was great! I held off on showing you his gifts because he looks at my blog every day - because he's the BEST! Now that he has his gifts you can see them!
His first gift is from Nuevowoodcraft on etsy!
My dad plays the guitar and is a wood worker, so these hand carved wooden guitar picks were perfect!! I highly recommend this esty seller - super helpful and super quick!
For awhile now my dad has asked for a handmade shop apron. Something heavy duty to use in his workshop! I had the perfect Japanese guitar fabric which is thick canvas!
Now he has a heavy duty apron with pockets! I think he was pretty stoked!
I made a cheesecake, but...... it was strange tasting and very flat. It looked more like flan.
I'm not to sure what I did wrong! My uncle still ate some, he said it was like eating custard. I don't like custard, so......I didn't like the cheesecake! whompwhomp ;)
Any ideas on why it was so thin?
How was your weekend? Did you make anything awesome!?
Put the link to your projects in the comments!

My week so far....

The week has flown by! I am VERY excited about the weekend! My sister, Lauren is coming in from Nashville, we're having a birthday for my dad, getting to see little cousins, crafting!!! So much to look forward to! Wish me luck on the cake tonight ;)
Last night I picked out some new yarn for a new blanket!
Lydie, do you like the colors!? Be honest!
Read my two new books; Home Economics and Stuff Every Women Should Know! I recommend both books with a hot bubble bath!

Oh and here are some obnoxiously cute Mickey pictures!
I can't help taking a zillion pictures of him! He completely brightens my day with his goofiness! Look at him drinking his Starbucks bahahaha only kidding it's mine - duh!
Beanie handmade by Steph! I wish it were cold out so I could wear it now!!! It's very well made and she sent some totally awesome buttons with her designs on them! Thank you Steph!!

More Ikea fabric!! I cut out this silly squirrel and embroidery "baby squirrel" at the bottom and made it a pillow. I made it for my brother Danny! He's getting a new apartment and he LOVES squirrel stuff. Sometimes call my sister and I baby squirrels lol! I'm not sure how that started.

He's heading back to FSU and I'm gonna miss him!
Hope your weekend is wonderful and I hope your week flew by! :)

Beaded Bracelet

Look at this beaded bracelet by Ashley over at Under Those Neon Lights!
She made it custom for me and I love it so much! She'll make you one too! Go look at her shop!
I picked the colors and she put them together perfectly!! Compliments my heart friendship bracelet from Justina and Jordy! ;)
One thing I found super interesting about Ashley is that she lives in Cherokee NC. Every summer growing up we'd pack up the car and head to Franklin NC. The mountains are amazing! The trips were always long (12 hours from FL to NC), but we made so many memories on those car drives! My parents would set a few days aside to go exploring, and we'd head over to Cherokee! I LOVED Cherokee. Looking back now all the gift shops are basically junk shops, but I loved the beads, bands, dolls, drums, etc.
The photo above is my sister and I in 1989 in Cherokee. My sister is the baby, I'm the oldest, no little Danny yet. The one thing that bummed me out as a kid (and now) was the bear show! No good, no good! Then the whole Indians being given crappy land after the settlers wrecked their world - all bad. I drove down the Tamiami Trail (in FL) recently, which is a road in the middle of a swamp, and where the Miccosukee Indians live. In the swamp with gators and snakes and tons of water? Really? Okay, I'm not trying to bum you all out, but geez!
Here's the Farley gang again (minus me) in 2000-ish. Cherokee is a beautiful place, with a wonderful museum. I'd love to go back soon! Thanks Ashley for my bracelet and bringing back all those great memories! Ps: I think I'll be needing this of Mickey! ;)
Who's been to Cherokee NC?

Cheese Cake vs Carrot Cake...GO!

Which is your favorite? I'm going to say Cheese Cake all the way!
I've made both cakes, but I've only made one Carrot Cake. It was totally vegan (which I am not) and I loved it, but my dad didn't. Since it is his birthday I won't made the vegan cake again!

new york style cheese cake

Go check out this Cheese Cake recipe over at Sew lovely Embroidery!

Here are some Cheese Cake Tips Shanny

I do have a few tips if you choose to go with the cheesecake as it can be a little tricky:

-When making cheesecakes make sure all your ingredients are at room temperature so they blend together to create a smooth texture. Cold cheese is harder to beat and you can end up with graininess.

-Judging when a cheesecake is fully baked always presents a challenge. They are very deceptive as they do need to be removed from the oven when the center is still wobbly and wet looking. Cracking can also be a problem. As a cheesecake bakes its moisture evaporates. If too much moisture is lost (when overcooked), or if it evaporates too quickly (oven temperature too hot) cracking will occur.
So be sure to follow your recipe's instructions.

-Also, to prevent cracking, shortly after you remove the cheesecake from the oven, run a sharp knife around the inside edge of the cheesecake. Once the cheesecake has completely cooled, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate. This allows the cake to set, flavors to meld, and produces a creamier texture.

Next a delicious sounding Ginger-Macadamia-Coconut-Carrot Cake by Kerry!

Carrot cake

I've been hooked on this since the first time I made it 2 or 3 years ago. Best carrot cake EVER! I've fallen off the vegan wagon since then, but it is a vegan cake. No worries though- the hardest part is having patience to grate 2 cups of carrots! It's SO freakin worth it though! Plus when you add the wet ingredients together, its all sparkly and pretty... esp if you're easily amused... and drinkning wine while baking.(Recommended!) :)

Ginger-Macadamia-Coconut-Carrot Cake

2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
1 Tbsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp salt
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground or freshly grated nutmeg
1 cup pineapple juice
1/2 cup canola oil
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup pure maple syrup
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup macadamia nuts, roughly chopped
1/4 cup crystallized ginger, chopped
1 cup unsweetened shredded coconut
2 cups carrots, grated

Preheat oven to 350F. Lightly grease two 8-inch round springform cake pans, or one 9×13″ baking pan.

In a medium mixing bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and ground spices.

In a large mixing bowl, mix the pineapple juice, oil, sugar, maple syrup, and vanilla. Add the dry ingredients to the wet and combine well with a hand mixer or strong fork. Fold in the macadamias, ginger, coconut, and carrots.

Divide the batter evenly between the two round pans, or spread in the rectangular pan, and bake for 40-45 minutes. Let it cool in the pans. Once it is cool, remove from the pans and put coconut icing (recipe to follow) between the layers and more icing on top. If you’ve used a rectangular pan, you can cut the cake in half to form the two layers, or leave it as one layer.

Coconut Icing:
1/4 cup margarine at room temperature (earth balance brand is vegan!)
1/4 cup coconut milk

1 tsp vanilla extract

2 cups confectioners’ sugar, sifted

1 cup unsweetened shredded coconut

Cream the margarine until light and fluffy. Add the coconut milk and vanilla and combine. Add the confectioners sugar and mix until smooth. Hand held mixer recommended for this! Add the coconut, mix to combine, and refrigerate until ready to use.

Also Aubrey recommended this recipe!

Thanks so much for all the suggestions! Keep em coming!

These helpful hints were in the comments of a post. And I thought I'd share them with you! So which is your favorite?

Wish me luck! ;)

cute as a button

I was over at Charity's blog A Lovely Little World and I saw this Mickey looking pup button on her etsy! And I had to have it!!!! I'm not a button gal really, but I couldn't pass this one up!
Plus she had a sale and I got to pick out a few more for only $2.00! I of course picked the smurf button! And the others I'll share with the gang.
So then I read the little note she sent and completely lost it!! She sent me two iron-on transfers of Steph Dillon's illustration and a dunny! Not just any dunny, my favorite Tado dunny! You are very awesome Charity! Thank you for the little extra gift! I couldn't find a white tee fast enough ;)
Here is a peek at my next blanket. The yarn color reminds me of Superman icecream - have you ever seen that? Turns your tongue different colors? The multicolored yarn is called Hot Stripes, I got it here (along with all my other yarn)!
Thanks for all your comments and recipes yesterday! :) And for the hand and finger stories! We need to figure out a way to beat old, twisted lady hands! More calcium? Maybe joint vitamins?

over the weekend

Over the weekend I crocheted my little heart out! My pinkie finger was sore from all the crocheting! Is that normal? Am I going to have those sad, twisted old lady hands?
Carly picked all these colors, aren't they nice together!? I still have a bit to go on it, but it's coming together nicely! Can't wait til it's finished so I can ship it up to Carly!
I have a question for you all - do you have any good cheese cake or carrot cake recipes? It's my dad, Larbear's birthday Sat. the 14th and he LOVES both and I would like to make one for him! If you do just leave the link below please :) and fingers crossed I make it correctly. Sometimes it's hit or miss with my baking skills! ;)
Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! I did - lots of sunshine and no sunburn - woot woot!
