Lego Birthday Ideas

Lego Birthday Ideas
(click on the image above to go to the Lego Birthday board on Pinterest)
Eli's 8th birthday is coming up! So I asked what theme he wanted this year and he said LEGOS!!
So I went on Pinterest and found a bunch of cute DiY Lego ideas
Eli wants to take photos of his mini figures and then hide them around the house and have a scavenger hunt for the kids - pretty cool idea huh?! Also we have to have a piƱata so he said a lego guy head haha, but I thought maybe a lego block - smashing a lego guy in the head maybe perceived as violent haha so we'll see ;)
Lego cake idea
I drew out this Lego Cake (I'm horrible at drawing haha). I thought I could use these giant donut pans to make a Lego guy head, plus a normal cake pan in the middle and a teeny one on top! Then since Eli wears glasses I thought I could take chop sticks, paint em black and tada glasses! What do you think!?

Here's Eli's 007 birthday from last year! Here's his secret agent 007 birthday invites from last year!
And for Christmas we made and sent out Lego Holiday Cards

In the comments leave your Lego Birthday Ideas :)

Ringling Museum Adventure

A few weeks ago, Brian and I had a little (2 day) Spring Break of our own!
I've been wanting to go to the Ringling Museum in Sarasota, Florida for as long as I can remember and out of the blue Brian suggested we go there! I was SO excited!
It was amazing! Better thought I even imagined!
There is a teeny tiny circus called the Howard Bros. Circus, which is an exact (PERFECT) miniature!
This was the craziest thing I've ever seen!
"The Howard Bros. Circus, complete with eight main tents, 152 wagons, 1,300 circus performers and workers, more than 800 animals and a 57-car train, is on permanent display in the Ringling Circus Museum’s Tibbals Learning Center.  The Howard Bros. Circus is a ¾-inch-to-the-foot scale replica of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus when the tented circus was at its largest (circa 1919-1938), and occupies 3,800 square feet in the 30,600 sq. ft.-Tibbals Learning Center."
All built by one man and his wife!
I fell in love with the circus all over again!
(though keep in mind I do not go to B&B circuses because of the animals)
We had THE most fun together!
I bought Eli, Brian, and I clown noses, and I wore mine around the museum grounds ;)
 had to
John Ringling built his wife a castle by the sea!
John Ringling's view
It was incredibly tacky, but also beautiful!
All the windows were colored like the photo above!
John Ringling's home
Look at their view!
Though sadly his wife died about 4 or 5 years after it was built.
their view
Look at this! Little birdie!
These crazy, rich circus folks just loved Florida! I totally get it!
It was like a dream!

I found some old slides of my grandfather's trip to Ringling Museum in the early 60's.
I took his slide and my photo and put them side by side! Kinda neat huh?!
Ringling Museum now and then

I guess it runs in my Farley blood - that shirtless little boy is my dad! haha!
Shirtless at the museum! AND Two clowns in love at the museum! ;)

Cross Stitching

I started my Dessert of the Month Club Cross Stitch from the Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery! They are the cutest little cross stitch patterns in town! Now my grandma taught me to cross stitch when I was 9, and I probably haven't cross stitched since! Haha! Hints the child-like job I did below! But there's 12 patterns, so hopefully by the 12th I'll be better at this!
I'm more on an embroidery gal myself - here's my Stitches Flickr set.
Dessert of the month club!
You can purchase this pattern and many other super adorable patterns at The Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery!
one down
I've use the same embroidery floss box since I was 9 :)
You can see my 9 year old hand written name on the broken lid.
I bought this one too, because I'm a huge rainbow lover!
next up!
Olivia did this super cute cactus a few years back!! Her's is completely perfect!
I do promise even if you've never tried cross stitch The Frosted Pumpkin's directions are super easy to follow- you can totally do it! Give it a try!

New (old) Coke Machine

Around our house we don't drink soda often, but we do drink Mexican Coke!
Mexican Coke is in the large glass bottles and instead of corn syrup it has actual sugar! We are an anti-corn family haha seriously corn is slowly ruining our country. Don't believe me, read some of Michael Pollan's books! Ok I'll get off my soap box now!
So we ONLY drink these Mexican Cokes, but most early 50's Coke machines only vend the small glass bottles! But not the Vendo 81! haha and that's the one Brian found for us!
Vendo 81 Coke Machine
She's a beauty!
We collect pinball machines and one of the pinball guys restores games and old Coke machines!

.10¢ a bottle! We collected all our dimes and nickels from around the house and in the cars!
.10¢ please
have a coke

Home Depot sells Mexican Cokes in bulk! Wootwoot!
Hecho en Mexico! Come on U.S. get back on the sugar train! Corn is making us fat and poor (farmers).
mexican coke
New (old) coke machine in our living room ❤ its the Vendo 81 and it fits the larger bottles of Mexican coke (reason he got it) haha
A coke and a smile
It's in our living room haha! Perfect spot!
Anyone else love Mexican Cokes as much as us? :)

Making Granny Squares

Last night I crocheted, which I haven't done in a while! I missed it!
Life and Blythes have taken over haha!
So while Brian and I watched Game of Thrones
(do you watch this show or read these books? You NEED to!) I crocheted!
granny squares
I don't really have a color scheme in mind as you can see in the above photo!
For those of you who are having trouble with granny squares I made this video awhile back! Don't laugh too much at it please ;) and here is a second video showing you how to change the yarn color
It took me FOREVER to learn ps!
Bitty Scissors
I wanted to show you my new adorable bitty scissors from The Workroom! So stink'n cute! They remind me of something from Alice and Wonderland and they're orange- double awesome!
I haven't crocheted in ages! Catching up while we watch Game of Thrones
My work area/night stand haha! Excuse the allergy meds and Ludens.

Where do you crochet or craft?
Do you fall in and out of crafts like me? For months I'll sew, sew, sew then STOP completely and do something else! I need to find a happy middle ground where I can crochet and sew and do doll stuff ;)

baking with blueberries

Over the weekend we picked fresh blueberries! So I decided I should do some blueberry baking!
fresh blueberry muffins
So I did what any wanna-be-homemaker would do - I googled it!! ;)
Googled "best blueberry muffins" - don't let me down now Google!
Well all has that on lock - To Die For Blueberry Muffins!
I picked this one because it had the recipe for the good sugary crunch topping!
This was my first time making muffins from scratch, pretty easy, though not as easy as the $.50 jiffy boxes, but they tasted 100% better! Even Brian LOVED them and he's super picky!
This is a rare site- me baking from scratch!!  similar to an endangered species or a sideshow!
I also made blueberry pancakes with my favorite pancake mix, which happens to be gluten free (the boys love it), I use soda water instead of regular water to make the pancakes fluffier!
fresh blueberry pancakes
Last night we had a Brinner = breakfast + dinner!
Breakfast dinner tonight! Brinner if you will.
We should have Brinner more often!

I still have a bunch of blueberries left! Any ideas on what to make!?

Blueberry Pick'n

Some very sweet friends of ours took us out to their blueberry fields on Sunday and it was so much fun!
I can't remember the last time I picked fruit straight from the tree/bush. Being 12 and picking tangerines from my parents tree and hurling them at my siblings doesn't count (ps we wouldn't actually hurt each other, we'd rip the tangerines in half the throw them at one another creating the stickiest mess EVER) sorry off topic! Ok so the blueberry fields were beautiful!  ;)
Just look! This photo was taken with my phone - nuts huh!? I brought my canon, but I didn't want to lug it around while picking berries. Oh iPhone you are pretty wonderful!

 Bri found the best berries
Both Brian and Eli really got into it, which cracks me up because when I buy blueberries neither of them will eat them! Brian was eating them right off the branches, but not Eli- he sticks to his picky habits. That kid doesn't know what he's missing! The fat dark berries are so sweet!
Obviously, I had to remind Brian, "the blacker the berry......" Oh 2pac I'm not actually a fan haha but thanks for the reference!

Pick'n blueberries
Eli was pretty darn cute out there in the field. He really loves the oddest jobs.

So many!!
Tonight I'm going to make the boys blueberry pancakes and bacon for dinner! And blueberry muffins for Brian and the gang at Sonic Print - FROM SCRATCH! Geez I hope they turn out okay!

blueberry fields forever
The whole time we were out in the blueberry fields, I had Strawberry Fields Forever stuck in my head, just minus straw and add blue ;)
I'll be back later with (fingers crossed) some tasty muffin photos and a recipe for you!
Oh and if you all have any good fresh blueberry recipes I'd LOVE to hear them!

Cardboard Arcade Love

Today Brian sent me a link to A Kid's Cardboard Arcade. This little kid made his very own arcade all out of cardboard boxes, he has tickets, and prizes - He is an amazing kid!
You all gotta watch this video - it will just make you happy - trust me!
I teared up a bit haha so you may!
I want to go to East LA and visit the Cardboard Arcade! :)

Brian, Eli, and I LOVE pinball and arcade games!
We have a little arcade at our house,
though after watching that video the Cardboard Arcade takes the cake!
We heart arcade games
Caine, if you're ever in FL you and your family should come play with us!!! :)

But now look at them all in my Flickr set!

Bleachy Keen Beck
I've never totally done it til now! Totes bleached my whole head- to the root!
Kinda extreme, but it's growing on me! Thankfully my sister was with me when I was at the salon, because when I first saw it I said, "I look like Draco Malfoy!!" Yikes!
I've never made one of those 30 things to do before I'm 30 lists (or whatever they are - who has the time!) but this would be one of them! It's not forever, it's just for fun! ;)
Like when I thought dark hair was ok haha
Have you ever done anything super extreme to your hair? :)
I'd love to hear about it!
